Neil Patrick Harris to publish debut children’s series with Hardie Grant Egmont

Beloved Emmy Award-winning American actor, producer and director Neil Patrick Harris will publish the first book in his debut children’s series The Magic Misfits with Hardie Grant Egmont, as part of a worldwide release on 21st November 2017.
The four-book series was jointly acquired by Hardie Grant Egmont (for ANZ) and Egmont UK, with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers publishing the series into the US market.
“Two of my favourite things are magic and reading,” says Harris, “which collided with two new favourite things: my twin six-year-old children.”
Currently starring in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events as the greedy Count Olaf, Harris is best known for playing Barney Stinson in the television comedy series How I Met Your Mother, and the title character in Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. He previously starred as teenage doctor Doogie Howser in Doogie Howser, MD.
Perhaps less widely known is Harris’s prowess as a magician. He served as President of the Academy of Magical Arts from 2011-2014, making him especially qualified to write this series for middle-grade readers about an offbeat group of magic-loving children who band together to protect their town from evil.
Managing Director Annabel Barker says, “At Hardie Grant Egmont, we pride ourselves on publishing series that children will love – such as Frankie Fish and Billie B Brown – and the moment we read The Magic Misfits, we knew we were the perfect home for Neil. Not only is he a global superstar, but his writing is funny, fresh and packed with exciting escapades and proper magic tricks – all of which will be hugely appealing to children. We are completely delighted to be launching his new series this November.”
The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris will release worldwide on 21st November 2017.
